Pohjanlahti beach road

Valuable natural environments can be found along the almost 900-kilometer long old postal road leading from Vehma to Tornio, such as upland beaches, dune zones, bird wetlands and river bodies, as well as well-kept traditional landscapes.

Lighthouse signs provide guidance

In Ii, the most significant road sections that almost completely follow the old coastal road of Ostrobothnia are Räinänperäntie, Ojakyläntie, Kirkkotie and Kantolantie.

The purpose of the tourist road is to improve the vitality of the Pohjanlahti countryside and bring more tourists to the coastal region. The project has been implemented by the University of Turku's landscape research (2011-2012) operating in the University Center of Pori. In 2010, Ostrobothnia's coastal path received national tourism certification from the Finnish Transport Agency.
