Historical buildings and cultural environments

Iin and Kuivaniemi churches are popular places to visit.

Iin church

The church built in 1949-50 was designed by architects Strandberg and Hytönen. Ii's parish is the third oldest in North Ostrobothnia, from the year 1340. The shape of the church is a long, low-walled stone church with a separate bell tower.
The church organ is made by the Kangasala organ factory, the pulpit sculptures are by Oskari Jauhiainen and the lighting is by Liisa Johansson-Pape. The bell tower's clocks are manufactured by OY Lokomo. The altarpiece is painted by the artist Eero Nelimarkka.

On the roof of the church is a nave called a votive ship, which is typical of churches in the coastal region. The church ship tradition has been known since the Middle Ages. The church was renovated in 1993-95, when e.g. the ringing of the bells was automated and ancient craftsmen made the new church textiles.

Location: Puistotie 2, 91100 Ii. The church is open by appointment p. 040 848 0078.

Kuivaniemi church

Built in 1871-74, the neo-Gothic long church with a western tower was designed by the German architect Ernst Bernhard Lohrmann. The church's altarpiece was painted by local artist Iivari Halttu, and the wooden relief of the pulpit was also made by local artist Väinö Rousu. The organ installed in 1974 is from the Kangasala organ factory.

Location: Kirkonkyläntie 105, 95100 Kuivaniemi. The church is open by appointment p. 040 1576 660.
