Outdoor and Indoor Sport

Ii has good opportunities for outdoor sports, like skiing, swimming, running and biking. There are several launching spots to get your canoe or boat in the water.

Iisi-Areena indoor sport venue

The indoor sports hall features floorball, volleyball, futsal and basketball fields and courts corresponding to official specifications, as well as a running track, exercise area for senior customers, a gym, a boxing area, a combat sport and budo area, a pitch and batting practice area for e.g. baseball, long jump facilities and a climbing wall.

Time slots are available for booking on weekday evenings and during the weekend.
 

Illinsaari Outdoor Area

Located in centre, excellent place for skiing (1 - 5,5km), running and playing frisbee golf (18-hole track) and enjoying snack at campfire. Illinsaari has also swimming beach, an outdoor dog park and a new children’s playground. Fishing on the area requires a permit. 18-hole frisbee golf forest track goes around the area, free admission.

Geocaching

The municipality of Ii has launched its own, eight-part geocache series called “Roots in Ii”. The series aims to showcase Iis breathtaking nature, as well as people of national renown who have their roots deep in the soil of Ii.

The location information required to find the geocaches, i.e. their coordinates, can be found on the website geocaching.com. Finnish users can also register on the Finnish site geocache.fi, which presents data retrieved from the international site. Registration is free.

If you want to try geocaching, all you need is a working internet connection and a suitable GPS device or a smartphone. You can also find geocaches by simply using a map.

The caches are located in Ii, Kuivaniemi, Olhava and Oijärvi. By logging in to geocaching.com, you can access coordinates that will lead you to beautiful scenic locations and allow you to get to know both household names and lesser known figures from Ii.

Canoeing and Kayaking routes

For beginners best way is to enjoy slowy flowing Hiastinhaara river delta.

Pankinnokka beach

Gorgeous and recently renewed swimming beach by the sea and river in Kuivaniemi (about 35 km from Ii centre). Two spots for swimming, a shallow one by the sea and a deeper one on the river side. The area has a toilet, changing rooms, hut with a fireplace, beach volleyball field and a picnic spot. Area is maintained by the local community.
